Funeral Chapell

Ulrich von Taufers 22
39030 Gais
General description

Gais has recently been enriched by a cultural and historical jewel. After years of preparatory work, the old chapel, the so-called “ossuary,” has been transformed into a small museum and opened to the public.

The highlight of the museum is a cycle of late Gothic frescoes featuring a unique depiction of the Last Judgment. Beside it are works illustrating the redemption of poor souls — a kind of catechism for believers who, at the time, were unable to read.

In addition, visitors can admire the priestly vestments from Castelbadia (including several precious chasubles) displayed in a glass case, as well as the complete skeleton of Saint Constantine II preserved in a reliquary.

Together for a sustainable Tschögglberg
Together for a sustainable Tschögglberg
Nature reveals its true beauty when we preserve it untouched. The Tschögglberg with its communities of Hafling, Vöran, Mölten and Jenesien is geographically, geologically and scenically unique. This uniqueness must be protected. For this reason, we - the three tourism associations on the Tschögglberg high plateau (Hafling-Vöran-Meran 2000, Mölten and Jenesien) - have decided to make this a central part of our strategy.
