Afing/Avigna is situated at an altitude of 847 m, some 10 km from the main village of Jenesien/San Genesio and above the entrance to Sarntal/Val Sarentino. The name Afing/Avigna is derived from the Latin word avia meaning “remote location”. Over the centuries the name of the hamlet changed. Today’s access road was built in 1980. Until then Afing/Avigna could only be reached from Rafenstein and Jenesien/San Genesio. With the bus NO. 157 the village is easily accessible.
